David Yu, Violinist and Violist

Biography

David Yu, a native of Hong Kong, began playing the violin at the age of eight. He obtained his initial training under the direction and leadership of his parents , both of whom are professional musicians who graduated from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. By the age of 10, David was accepted to the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts where he received his musical education consisting of intensive violin, chamber music and orchestra. At the age of 15, David came to New York and continued his violin study under Dr. Linda Sinanian. In 1996, David received Dean Scholarships to attend Purchase Conservatory of Music at the State University of New York where he studied violin under Daniel Phillips, viola under Maria Lambros and chamber music under Vagram Saradjian and Jesse Levine. As a result of his early fascination with the Baroque Music, David had an opportunity to serve as a soloist to perform the “Telemann Viola Concerto in G” with the Camerata Chamber Orchestra in 1998. In 2000, David graduated Cum Laude, with a double major in Violin & Viola Performance. Upon graduation, David continued teaching both violin and viola to children. David has more than 15 years of teaching experience.
